Groundbreaking alliance for the energy transition: Reverion power plant launched in Mühlacker
A project with a significant impact is being developed in Mühlacker: Together with the Mühlacker municipal utilities and the Mühlacker biomethane plant, Reverion is implementing a new generation of decentralized, climate-friendly energy supply – groundbreaking locally, technologically, and in terms of climate policy.
At the heart of the project is the container-based, reversible Reverion power plant, which for the first time combines two operating modes in one system: gas-to-power and power-to-gas. This allows the system to flexibly generate electricity from biogas or, when there is a surplus energy, produce green methane or hydrogen. Thanks to an electrical efficiency of up to 80%, Reverion is setting new standards in biogas power generation.
This is the missing piece of the energy transition puzzle – the connection between electricity, gas and storage capacity,” explains Roland Jans, Managing Director of Stadtwerke Mühlacker.
In addition to efficiency, the system also offers CO₂ negativity: Instead of exhaust gas, pure biogenic CO₂ is produced, which can be captured, used, or stored – a real benefit for the climate and industry. Combined with wind and solar energy, this creates a demand-based, CO₂-neutral energy supply – stable even during periods of low temperatures.
Thomas Gutjahr, Managing Director of the Mühlacker biomethane plant, adds:
We are building a new pillar – independent of the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG). The technology is economical, ecological, and the collaboration with Reverion is a partnership on equal terms."
What is being created in Mühlacker is more than a pilot project: It is proof that the energy transition begins locally – here and now.
